Prince Consort Lodge Garden Project

Trees for Cities is continuing to work with the Friends of Kennington Park and the London Borough of Lambeth to restore the gardens around Prince Consort Lodge for the benefit of all park users including schools, residents and community clubs and organisations.

The Lodge was designed by Prince Albert and erected by the Society for Improving the Condition of the Labouring Classes as a model house for the Great Exhibition in 1851. It was dismantled and re-erected in Kennington Park, where it was used by Park Keepers.

As no garden was included as part of the design, the project will not be looking at restoring a Victorian original but will look to the future and will aim to plant low maintenance, drought tolerant plants to promote sustainability.
