New trees in Canterbury Road Rec and Estate
Trees for Cities are working in partnership with Croydon Council and Croydon Climate Action's Trees4Croydon initiative to plant new trees in Canterbury Road Recreation Ground and Canterbury Estate. This project is supported by the Forestry Commission Urban Tree Challenge Fund.
The new trees will increase canopy cover in the area, provide natural habitats for wildlife, and promote biodiversity.
Come and plant a tree with us!
Please join us on Saturday 20th January 2024, 10am - 2pm at Canterbury Road Recreation Ground CR0 3QY, for a free community planting day!
Activities will be available for families and people of all ages. Trees for Cities will provide all the tools and equipment you need as well as guidance on tree planting from our team. There will also be a free hot lunch provided.
We endeavor to make all our events as accessible as possible. If you have any specific needs or questions around accessibility at this event please contact Peony at peony@treesforcities.org or on 07825 541130.
The Project
The Trees4Croydon initiative involved 5 weeks of walking, running, cycling or travelling in a wheelchair this summer, together with fundraising for trees for areas that need them in the borough. We are working with Croydon Climate Action on this Trees4Croydon project to ensure greener spaces for residents of Croydon. As part of this partnership, Croydon Voluntary Action is supporting with community engagement efforts in the area to enhance local involvement in the project.
What trees are we planting and why?
After consulting with local residents, we have come up with a final design for our tree planting.
The new trees will support the Croydon Carbon Neutral Action Plan, which hopes to establish and meet new tree planting targets across the borough.
The project will also help Croydon Council to achieve its aim of improving the quality and accessibility of green spaces for residents while protecting and enhancing biodiversity.
