Colham Green Rec. Orchard Celebration Day

Friday 2nd July 2021 2.30 pm - 6pm

Trees for Cities are pleased to be able to host a celebration event on 2nd July 2021. We are very proud of the work we have done at Colham Green Rec and are keen to celebrate with a community that has been very involved with our planting during a difficult year for everyone.

There will be a launch ceremony at 2.30 pm followed by an afternoon of games and activities for families and residents.

Please feel free to come along at any time on the day. if you would like any more information please contact John at johnk@treesforcities.org

While this relatively small outdoor event carries a low risk of infection. There are likely to be some infection control measures in place such as social distancing, sanitising equipment and mask-wearing, to protect both Trees for Cities staff and those attending the event.

The locations of the new trees, We have created groups around the park and as an avenue along the existing path.

What have we planted?

So far on Colham Green, we have planted 49 large trees these have included edible fruit trees such as apple and cherry as well as some more ornamental species such as dawn redwood and Hop Hornbeam. We have also planted a large number of saplings around the park to provide more wildlife habitat and expand the existing hedgerows.

This project has been kindly supported by Ecosia, the internet search engine that funds tree planting around the world.

Residents and park users will be able to see the woodland areas grow from saplings to beautiful fully grown trees. This woodland has been designed with physical and mental health in mind with paths to walk along and enjoy the woodland as it grows.

Planting with the Community

Covid 19 meant that opportunities to engage with people from the local area were limited. We did however plant a large portion of both the large trees and saplings with local schools and held a community planting day in early April where we planted 12 more of the large trees.
