New Trees at Commerce Road Open Space
Trees for Cities is pleased to be working with the London Borough of Haringey to plant new trees in Commerce Road Open Space. These trees will bring increased shade and biodiversity and improve the visual amenity of the space.

WHY ARE WE PLANTING TREES HERE?
The project aims to plant up to 6 trees and introduce bulb planting to the Commerce Road Open space - part of a residential estate in Wood Green. The new plants will improve the visual amenity of the space, adding interest, depth, and colour, and contribute to the enjoyment and well-being of local residents. The new trees will also create areas of shade for families and members of the community to spend time in and enjoy, and contribute to the overall cooling of the surrounding air temperatures. New plants will provide important new habitats for a range of local wildlife and increase the biodiversity of the area.
This initiative was started with support from Friends of the Earth - Tottenham and Wood Green - and aims to engage local people and organisations in establishing the trees and sustaining the site. Trees for Cities will engage the local community through consultation, educational activities for local schools, and volunteering opportunities. If you or your group are interested in planting trees with us, please contact our Community Engagement Coordinator, Peony, at peony@treesforcities.org or 07825541130.
WHAT TREES WILL WE BE PLANTING?
The project aims to plant 6 standard trees (young trees that are 1-3 meters tall when they are planted and grow to 4-20 meters in maturity) and introduce bulb planting to Commerce Road Open Space. To view our initial design and species list please click the links below.
Please note that Haringey Council has decided to remove two of the three small shrubs in the Commerce Road open space, to increase the opportunity for tree planting and create more space.
WHEN WILL THE TREES BE PLANTED
Following the community consultation, we are planning to plant the trees at the end of March 2024.
