New Trees in Elthorne Park

Trees for Cities is pleased to be working with Ealing Council to plant new trees in Elthorne Park Extension. We are planting large trees across the park to provide additional shade and enhance biodiversity.

Tree Planting Event

Tree for Cities is pleased to be holding free tree planting workshops for local school children in February 2024, who will be learning about the importance of urban trees and getting hands on with tree planting.

What Trees are we planting and why?

We are planting 25 large trees in the space which will contribute to increasing canopy cover in the Borough. The park is currently managed for nature conservation, supporting a range of habitats including, woodland, scrub, meadow grassland and a pond. The trees being planted will include native British tree species, which will increase the biodiversity of the space.

Elthorne Park Extension is used by Elthorne Park High School for recreational activities, and the planting of these new trees will enhance the space for school pupils. Clusters of trees towards the edges and corners of the fields will provide shaded areas, as well as depth and interest to the borders of the park.

Increasing tree canopy cover also contributes to combatting the urban heat island effect as healthy urban trees are known to have a cooling benefit, which you can read more about here.

During community consultation on the project, we received feedback from local people and worked with residents, local school children and Ealing Council to make appropriate changes to the initial design. You can view the final design and species list via the links below.
