What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows charities to reclaim the tax that you have already paid on your donations through income tax or capital gains tax. This means Trees for Cities will receive an extra 25p from HMRC for every £1 you donate.

How do you claim Gift Aid?

All you need to do is complete a Gift Aid declaration and we’ll do the rest!

The declaration will cover all of the eligible donations you have given in the past four years and on any donations you make to Trees for Cities in the future.

You can complete a Gift Aid declaration form here, or through our donate pages when making a one-off or regular gift.

How do I know if I am a UK taxpayer?

You ARE a UK income tax payer if:

  • Tax is taken from your wages or pension before you receive them

  • You have to fill in a self-assessment form

  • You have any taxable savings (in a building society, for instance), or a pension plan, or investment income

  • You have recently paid any capital gains tax, or expect to pay it in the near future. This could be on the sale of a property or some shares, for example

What if my personal details change?

If you want to cancel your Gift Aid declaration, change your name or home address, or if you no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains please let us know by emailing us at supportercare@treesforcities.org
