Tree Planting at Hainault Recreation Ground
Trees for Cities worked with London Borough of Redbridge in 2024 to plant new trees at Hainault Recreation Ground / Forest Road Playing Fields. These trees were planted with the aim to increase biodiversity and tree canopy cover in the area and add to the visual amenity of the space.

Why did we plant trees here?
Forest Road Playing Fields is a large site of approximately 46ha in Hainault ward in London. The site is largely open grassland with a small area of young woodland planted by Trees for Cities in winter of 2018/19.
In November 2024, school groups and members of the local community joined us to plant 4500 whips (young trees) to expand the woodland area and add varied age structure to the established planted woodland. As the site is used for recreation and as an event space, we took care to design the woodland not to interfere with sports pitches and event areas.
If you have any questions about this project or any others, please contact our Community Engagement Team at community@treesforcities.org .
What a brilliant way to get the family outdoors while doing something for the community! Lovely spending time with everyone.
