New Trees at Hillingdon Court Park
Trees for Cities is pleased to be working with Hillingdon Council to plant new trees in Hillingdon Court Park. We are planting a mixture of large and small trees around the park. This will maintain the existing characteristics of the park and increase the diversity and resilience of the woodland areas for years to come.
Community Planting Day
Trees for Cities is pleased to be holding a free community tree planting day at Hillingdon Court Park on Saturday 3rd February 2024 from 10am to 3pm. We welcome people from the local community to come volunteer to plant more beautiful new trees in the park. Trees for Cities will provide all the equipment and guidance you need and everyone that comes along will get a chance to plant a tree.
Free refreshments and lunch will be provided for volunteers on the planting day.
Accessibility is very important to us, and we are working to make sure our events can welcome everyone.
Community Tree Planting event
Online sign-up for our event is closed but you are still welcome to come along and plant some trees with us. we will be at Hillingdon Court Park from on Saturday 2nd March from 10 am - 3 pm
What trees are we planting and why?
We are planting both small and large trees in the park. The groups of small trees will increase the diversity and resilience of the existing woodland areas by adding new species and younger trees to the spaces. The new trees will eventually add depth to the northern border of the park and assist with drainage in the often waterlogged soil area.
The planting has been set out to retain the key views and long vistas across the park, including from the benches dotted around the park.
The design replicates the existing pattern; with clusters of trees, two or three large feature trees, in groups with some lower-growing trees. Some of these groups of more mature trees will have much younger trees, similar to those we are using for forest planting. This is a newly developed planting method being trialled in other large parks in London such as Richmond Park. Hillingdon Court Park already has many beautiful trees and maintaining this characteristic of the park is a key motivation for this planting project.
We will be planting trees near the play area to provide shade and interest for the families and community using the space. Species are rich in autumn colour and tolerate the soggy soil which will make the space more usable throughout the year.
During community consultation on the project, we received feedback from local people and worked with residents and Hillingdon Council to make appropriate changes to the initial design. You can view the final design and species list via the links below.
