This International Women's Day, we're celebrating the women behind the urban trees. From our volunteers getting stuck in at planting days, to our urban forest team getting our trees in the ground, to our senior leadership team leading the way forward for our charity.
This year's theme is #InspireInclusion, and we hope that by amplifying the stories of our volunteers and colleagues, we let the world know that to make a positive impact on the environment, we need equality.
Our aim should be for sustainability organisations and businesses to have an equitable and inclusive workforce that is equally accessible to everyone. It’s our hope that we can inspire other organisations to hire on an equitable basis, offering equal opportunities to men and women alike, on a best-fit-for-role basis.
Kate Sheldon, CEO at Trees for Cities
Getting trees in the ground
We caught up with our colleagues who are out on location, planting and protecting our urban trees, to find out what they love about having a career that gets them out and about in nature.
Our Urban Forest Team at Trees for Cities is now mostly women, and our senior leadership team are all women, which is great for young children at our volunteering events to be able to see women in these positions.
