New Trees at Morden Park
Trees for Cities is pleased to be working with Merton Council to plant new trees in Morden Park. We are planting native woodland trees to help to enhance the biodiversity of the surrounding landscape and reduce air and noise pollution from the main road.
Community Planting Day
Trees for Cities is pleased to be holding a free community tree planting day at Morden Park on Saturday 10th February 2024 from 10am - 3pm. We welcome people from the local community to come volunteer to plant more beautiful new trees in the park. Trees for Cities will provide all the equipment and guidance you need and everyone that comes along will get a chance to plant a tree.
Free refreshments and lunch will be provided for volunteers on the planting day.
Accessibility is very important to us, and we are working to make sure our events can welcome everyone.

What trees are we planting and why?
We are planting a selection of small native trees on the border of the park at the northeast end, next to the existing areas of perimeter woodland alongside the A24.
The trees will add depth and interest to the borders of the space, as well as enhance the biodiversity of the surrounding landscape and reduce air and noise pollution from the main road. The planting has been set out to ensure ample space is available for sporting activities.
Morden Park is dominated by expansive areas of grassland but includes some more natural areas on either side of the Pyl Brook. These trees will contribute to increasing the canopy cover of the area, combatting the urban heat island effect, which you can read more about here.
During community consultation on the project, we received feedback from local people and worked with residents and Merton Council to make appropriate changes to the initial design. You can view the final design and species list via the links below.
