Tree maintenance volunteering with Bupa

Have you ever wondered what a corporate volunteering day looks like with Trees for Cities? We joined Bupa employees in London's Victoria Park, getting stuck in with caring for the mature trees of tomorrow.

Getting Out In Nature
Our year-round corporate volunteering programme offers hands-on opportunities for teams to support vital urban greening projects across London. From planting trees in winter to helping maintain green spaces in summer, these volunteers make a tangible impact on local communities and the environment, while enjoying a meaningful team-building experience outdoors.
On a sunny day in Victoria Park, Bupa volunteers were getting stuck in with weeding and mulching around the trees, which helps with water retention.

They also checked the condition of the stakes and protective cages surrounding the young trees, which shield them from damage. Sometimes these stakes need to be repositioned or resecured, and the hessian ties may need replacing. It's all important work that helps protect the tree whilst it extends its roots and establishes.
It just feels so good to be out here supporting urban nature, particularly the work we're doing to care for young trees. It's just a lovely feeling that what we do today is part of a bigger legacy.

Connecting Through Nature
Corporate volunteering days are a great way to escape the office environment, providing an open and accessible space for colleagues to work collaboratively in a different context. Volunteers can apply their skills in a new area and feel connected to nature, which can boost morale.
It's really good to see people that I work with or don't see so often in person actually bonding - having a chat that's non-work related. It brings you closer together.
