Volunteer Planting Supervisors

Love trees? Keen to learn how to plant? Like chatting to all sorts of people?

We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers to support our community planting days this season.

The role involves a training day and the opportunity to lead your own small group of volunteers at our events.

  • Leading small groups of volunteers (adults and children) in planting trees.
  • Welcoming and supporting all volunteers.
  • Ensuring safe planting in your group.
  • Being an Ambassador for Trees for Cities.

Role requirements

  • Willingness to volunteer outdoors in rain and shine.
  • Willingness to volunteer Saturdays or Sundays 9.30am - 3pm (at least 2 days a year).
  • A friendly and positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others.
  • Taking Health & Safety measures seriously.
  • Good attention to detail.

If you have experience working on community projects, in schools or youth centres or in public-facing hospitality work - that would be great!

This role can be adapted to different needs and abilities. If you have any questions, please contact Jess at jess@treesforcities.org

Our planting days are usually one of two types:

1. Heavy standards

These are large trees. A group of 2 - 6 volunteers might be planting one tree together, supervised by yourself and our staff. The process takes an hour or so and includes digging and using tools such as hammers and post whackers.

2. Whips

These are small trees (saplings). Once volunteers have seen a planting demonstration, they can crack on planting, supervised by yourself and our staff. The process is simpler but there will be more people to supervise. We usually need more Volunteer Planting Supervisors to help with these.

To apply, please complete the form below and send to jess@treesforcities.org by Sunday 3rd October 2021.

If we receive a large volume of applications, we will unfortunately not be able to offer a role to everyone. We will be in touch with successful applicants by the morning of Tuesday 5th October 2021.

If selected, you will need to be available on Saturday 9th October (11am - 3pm) in central London for the training day.
