What trees are we planting and why?

Waltheof Gardens is part of the Tower Gardens residential estate, on the border between Tottenham and Wood Green in White Hart Lane ward. The Gardens are a linear stretch of green space in the north of the estate, lined by homes on either side.

We will be planting 16 new trees and some new areas of hedges. We will also be returning in the autumn to plant some areas of bulbs.

Planting at Waltheof Gardens will improve the visual amenity of the area, adding interest, depth, and colour to the space and contributing to the enjoyment and well-being of people in the local area. The new trees will also provide areas of shade for families and members of the community to spend time in.

Another benefit of the new plants will be to help cool the surrounding air temperatures by reducing the urban heat island effect. The new plants will also provide important new habitats for a range of local wildlife, increasing the biodiversity of the area.

During community consultation on the project, we received feedback from local people and worked with residents and Haringey Council to make appropriate changes to the initial design. You can view the final design and species list via the links below.
